Meet the LASIK,
refractive and cataract expert surgeons at New England Eye Center
Dr.
Helen K. Wu
A board-certified
ophthalmologist, Helen K. Wu, M.D., is the Director of the Refractive
Surgery Service at New England Eye Center and associate professor
of ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine. She was
the Senior Associate Editor of the Journal of Refractive Surgery
for 2006. She edited the textbook Refractive Surgery and is a
founding member of the LASIK Institute. Dr. Wu serves on the Executive
Committee of the Refractive Surgery Interest Group and the Refractive
Surgery Subcommittee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
She also is a member of the Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee
of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Helen
K. Wu, M.D., has participated in multiple clinical trials for
PRK and LASIK and has trained hundreds of physicians nationwide.
Her research interests include corneal wound healing after refractive
surgery.
Dr.
Michael H. Goldstein
A board-certified
ophthalmologist and Co-Director of Cornea, External Disease and
Cataract Service, Michael H. Goldstein, M.D., has earned a reputation
as an excellent physician and surgeon. A member of the New England
Eye Center's Cornea, Anterior Segment, and Refractive Surgery
Departments, Dr. Goldstein has been invited to give numerous national
and international presentations by prominent organizations, including
the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society
of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has published peer-reviewed
articles on topics covering refractive surgery, cataract surgery,
corneal transplantation, and ocular microbiology. His primary
research interests focus on how to better define the wound healing
response of the cornea after refractive surgery, and he has received
grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to further
this work.
Michael
H. Goldstein, M.D., earned his B.A. degree in political economy
at Williams College before attending Northwestern University Medical
School and the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He
completed a fellowship in cornea, external diseases, and refractive
surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Eye Institute. Prior to
coming to the New England Eye Center, Dr. Goldstein was Director
of Refractive Surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Dr. Goldstein is a Board Member on the Contact Lens Association
of Ophthalmologist (CLAO).
Dr. Daniel J. Hu
Daniel
J. Hu, M.D,, received his undergraduate degree in Biology from
Northwestern University. He received his medical degree from Northwestern
University Feinberg School of Medicine. He then completed his
internship in general surgery at the Medical University Hospital,
followed by his residency in ophthalmology at the Storm Eye Institute,
Medical University of South Carolina, where he served as Chief
Resident. He then came to Boston to complete his sub-specialty
training, where he completed a fellowship in cornea, external
disease, anterior segment and refractive surgery at the Tufts-New
England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston.
Dr.
Hu is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the
American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He helped
found a mobile eye screening clinic in Charleston, SC, providing
free complete eye exams throughout the Charleston area. Dr. Hu
has also spent time working with a group of international ophthalmologists
teaching clinical and surgical skills in Wuhan, China. He has
been published in peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals, and presented
at several national ophthalmic conferences on cataract surgery,
refractive surgery, and amniotic membrane use in ocular surface
reconstruction.
Dr. Hu is
available for consultation in medical and surgical management
of cornea and external disease. His special interests include
corneal transplantation, pterygium excision, ocular surface reconstruction,
cataract surgery, complex intraocular lens surgery, presbyopic
lens implantation, surgical and laser correction of near and far
sightedness, and astigmatism. Dr. Hu speaks Mandarin Chinese.
