Boston ASCRS Meeting April 2010

Dr. Salz at World Cornea Congress-Boston

Created on April 9, 2010 using Flip Share. Dr, Salz was an invited lecturer at the VI Annual World Cornea Congress in Boston, April 8, 2010. .His topic was LASIK enhancements, to lift the flap or perform a surface photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)

Dr Salz and LASIK candidates with large night time pupils

Created on April 11, 2010 using FlipShare. results of wavefront guided LASIK
on 10 eyes of 5 patients with night pupils greater than 8.5 mm. Presented at
meeting of American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in Boston.

TLS surgeons Dr. Slade + Dr.Steinert speak about Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery

The use of femtosecond lasers to improve the results of cataract surgery has great potential. This symposium discusses this exciting technology and Dr. Steven Slade of Houston performed the first cases in the U. S.

Nighttime Vision Symptoms post LASIK Literature Review by Dr. Kerry Solomon

This important literature review by Dr. Kerry Solomon and colleagues of over 1500
articles reviews the incidence of night vision complaints in patients after LASIK
and shows that wavefront guided treatments decrease this risk.
Lecture by Dr. Helga Sandaval

Dr. Doug Koch + Femtosecond Laser Cataract Surgery

Dr. Edward Manche + Wavefront guided vs optimized in LASIK+PRK

Presented at the meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting
in Boston, April 2010. Dr. Manche compares results at Stanford with wavefront
guided vs wavefront optimized ablations in both PRK and LASIK patients.

Dr. William Trattler + Dr. James McCuley ASCRS Boston

Dr. George Waring + new Nidek system for myopic ablations

Nidek has developed a new laser delivery system to optimize the shape of myopic ablations and hopefully reduce the induction of common higher order aberrations
such as spherical aberration and coma.

Dr. Richard Lindstrom + Femtosecond assisted cataract surgery

Dr. Lindstrom describes the many advantages of using femtosecond lasers
in cataract surgery.

Dr. Richard Lindstrom speaks about the "acufocus" implant.

This procedure under FDA study can improve reading vision in presbyopic patients
and can be combined with LASIK surgery or even added to LASIK patients who
had surgery when they were younger and were still able to read.

Dr. David Schanzlin + wavefront guided vs optimized LASIK

Dr. Dan Durrie at ASCRS meeting April 2010 Boston

Dr. Durrie speaks about a new type of laser,YSGG Waterlase Laser, commonly
used in Dentistry and may have applications to various forms of eye surgery.

Dr. Jonathan Davidorff talks about the Synchrony lens implants.

Dr. Roger F. Steinert currently with UC Irvine, accepting highest honors from International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) / American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the prestigious Barraquer Award.  Dr. Steinert, world renowned LASIK Eye Surgery expert, is a Refractive Surgery pioneer, yet continues his leading edge Laser research today, and presented his "Barraquer Lecture" (clip is some highlights of ) to distinguished colleagues from around the world at annual AAO / ISRC this year at Atlanta, GA, in November 2008

American Academy of Ophthalmology & International Society of Refractive Surgeons
met in Atlanta in November, 2008. Here are short clips, primarily of TLS Surgeons who
participated this years annual gathering of eye surgeons from around the world.

Margueritte McDonald M.D., current president of the International Society of Refractive Surgeons of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, was the first surgeon
in the world to perform an excimer Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) on a
human eye while she was at Louisana State Universtiy.. In this brief video
clip celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Excimer laser, she discusses
this important milestone in the development of laser vision correction.

Dr. Marguerite McDonald M.D., FACS, Long Island, recorded on November 10, 2008
at the 25th Anniversary of the Excimer Laser Symposium at the
American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Ronald Krueger from the Cleveland Clinic became interested in the development
of the excimer laser while he was a medical student and he started working with Dr. Steven Trokel. He has also been actively involved in the development of wavefront technology and co-authored one of the first books on that subject and helped
to start an annual WaveFront International meeting.

Dr. Salz and Dr. Waring are part of the video on the history of the
development of the excimer laser used for LASIK surgery

During the presbyopia symposium at the AAO meeting Dr. Vance Thompson
reviewed surgical options to correct presyopia and explained the improved depth of
focus concept (pin hole effect) of the new AcuFocus inlay under FDA study .

Dr. Holladay from Houston, reviewing surgical options for correction of presbyopia.

Dr. Davidorf from West Hills, CA lectured on the subject of the Synchrony dual
optic accommodating lens implant for cataract surgery. this lens is currently
going through FDA study in the U. S. to insure efficacy & safety prior to use.

Dr. Dan Durrie from Kansas City, Missouri discusses the Intralase and the
Ziemer femtosecond lasers for the creation of flaps used in "All Laser LASIK"

Dr. James Salz, Los Angeles, lecturing on "con" side of debate for refractive
lensectomy to correct presbyopia in nearsighted or normal presbyopic eyes
because of increased risk of retinal detachment.

Dr. Ronald Gaster from the Universtiy of Califronia Irvine was interviewed by
Dr. James Salz about his impressions of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology Meeting in Atlanta.

Dr. Jonathan Davidorf is interviewed by Dr. James Salz about him impressions
of the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting and mentions in response
to the Richard Duffey Survey that he performed LASIK on his father.

Dr. Casimir Swinger discusses Dr. Richard Duffey's annual survey of the
International Society of Refractive Surgeons showing that many surgeons
have had refractive surgery on themselves or a family member.

Dr. Davidorf asked DR. Salz about his impressions of the
American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Atlanta.

We would thank the surgeons who had a moment to comment and the many others who presented, exchanged views, -those furthering the science of eye care daily.
