Personal Bio
John D. Olkowski, M.D. has been a corneal surgery specialist for over 20 years and has performed over 10,000 vision correction surgeries. In fact, other LASIK surgeons have trusted Dr. Olkowski to perform their LASIK surgery. He is a recognized expert in LASIK, cataract and corneal transplant procedures and is active in both the local community as well as in international professional organizations. Dr. Olkowski has participated in FDA clinical trials to approve new vision correction technology. Dr. Olkowski has also been a frequent lecturer at professional organization meetings such as the Hawaii Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery. Besides serving as Medical Director and Chief Surgeon of his private practice at the EyeSight Hawaii Vision Institute, Dr. Olkowski serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor, University of Hawaii's John A. Burns School of Medicine and an Associate Director, Hawaii Lions Eye Bank. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Honolulu.
Since 1999, Dr. Olkowski and his fine staff at EyeSight Hawaii have been at the forefront of bringing the most advanced and safest vision correction technology and eyecare throughout Hawaii. Among the vision correction technologies that Dr. Olkowski was among the first to bring to Hawaii were ORBSCAN Corneal Imaging, which creates a 3-dimensional image of the cornea, the VISX Star S4 Excimer Laser (the only FDA-approved 3-dimensional eye tracking laser), VISX WaveScan (which in essence creates a "Fingerprint of your Vision"), IntraLase (a completely blade-free method of creating the corneal flap for LASIK procedures), and IntraLase Enabled Keratoplasty (IEK) (the latest surgical advance in corneal transplantation).

John Olkowski, M.D. has been serving the eye care needs of Hawaiian residents for over 15 years and is the only LASIK surgeon in the state who travels to Maui and the Big Island of Hawaii to see his patients.
Dr. Olkowski earned his Bachelor of Science degree as well as his medical degree at Georgetown University. After completing his Residency in Ophthalmology at George Washington University, he obtained his fellowship training in corneal surgery at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts,
His interests include cooking, tennis,
running, swimming and weight training (to work off the cooking!)
and oil painting. In fact, he has entered his works in the Artists
of Hawaii competition at the Honolulu Academy of Art and displays
his paintings in his office. Dr. Olkowski enjoys spending personal
time with his wife, their two children Kirk and Erica, their dogs,
Roxy and Max, a bunny named Bon-Bon and a pond full of koi.
